Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Performs psychiatric evaluations and treatment. Examines, evaluates, diagnoses, and treats psychiatric disorders; manages and directs psychiatric services. Conducts intake evaluations on a routine and emergency basis including Commander-directed mental health evaluations in accordance with applicable USAF and DoD guidelines. Prepares and reviews case histories and obtains and evaluates data through interview techniques. Assembles the assessment findings into a written document. Prescribes and evaluates effectiveness of a wide range of therapeutic measures. Integrates findings and formulates clinical information to establish a diagnosis IAW criteria set down in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association. Determines the appropriate treatment setting and provides a variety of treatment modalities in an outpatient setting, which include psychopharmacology and the traditional interactive psychotherapies. Refers, coordinate and facilitates inpatient admissions for admission to psychiatric inpatient or partial hospitalization facilities.
